Flood relief by Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva in Majuli.

Flood relief by Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva in Majuli.
Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva (SSS) extended assistance to the flood & erosion affected people of Majuli on November 22, 2012. The relief operation was carried out in Salmora area, which happens to be the worst affected area in Majuli. People are still living on embankment there as they have lost their homes to erosion. While they received some aid from different corners during the monsoon season, now they have no relief as the donors are under the impression that the flood affected people have returned to own homes. But these people do not have any home at all where they can return. Some people were even starving, we learnt. So we spent some amount from our account within our capability in order to distribute food materials.
Pottery is the only industry through which the people from salmora region earn their livelihood. But this industry is now in a very deplorable condition.

  1. This is something that we have in common. The post I did today was about Longview; where this last spring brought heavy flooding rains. High river, Alberta got the worst of it. Longview is along the way to High river. Many homes were flooded there this year. Calgary was too.
